Success Keys: Simple Activities

Sometimes it seems that the longer we’ve been in the network marketing business the more complicated we  make it.  But one of the key ingredients to massive growth is mlm duplication. And the way to duplicate is to Keep It Simple. Sometimes the more we know, the more we have so many good things about the business and our network marketing company  swimming around in our head. Here are words of wisdom  from one of my company’s top leaders:

I have no idea what you define as success, but whatever it is, pick one of the simple activity you must do to make one of your successes  happen in your life and do it 3 times today. Then do it 3 times tomorrow and the next day and the next until your success becomes a reality.

Success comes through simple consistent activities over a sustained period of time.

I said “simple” activities. Simple doesn’t mean they won’t be difficult or uncomfortable to do. But, remember…

“That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

My encouragement to you is, don’t make it complicated. Don’t let details stress you out! Keep it simple. Pin point a simple activity today and get going with this simple success strategy!

How To Handle Shutdowns In Your Network Marketing Business

You may think this post is about MLM Shutdowns; you know, companies that have shutdown and are no longer operating. That’s not what this is about. This post is part 1 of a 2 part series about things that shut YOU down in your mlm business and how to handle them.

I just returned from my company’s very exciting and high energy convention. Amidst the inspiring testimonies and talks, new product unveilings, and energetic panel discussions was a thought provoking workshop on shutdowns. Adam and Barbara did a great job, so I will do my best to encapsulate it for you.

First, what exactly is a shutdown in a network marketing business. It’s something that can stop you dead in your tracks in your business. It’s something the brings your exciting momentum to a screeching halt, or something that keeps you from ever really getting started.

Get Ready, Set, Start!

If you are new to Network Marketing you need to set a good foundation right from the start. If you are seasoned, you need to be a good leader by helping your new distributor’s set a good foundation.

  • Establish your WHY carefully. You can review how to do this by reading the post about your why. Make clear and specific goals. If you’ve never made S.M.A.R.T. goals before, you may want to do this with the help of your sponsor. You should do this within your first few days of signing up.

  • Treat your business like a business. In network marketing, remember, you are the boss. You don’t answer to anyone. There is no one telling you when to come in to work, when you can take a vacation or have time off, or how to do your work. It’s great to have that kind of freedom! But that can also be a disadvantage in that you may tend to not take our business seriously. If you treat your business like a business you will get paid like a business. You can’t be successful by only doing it sometime.

  • Make a commitment to Personal Development. Read 10 pages a day and listen 30 minutes a day to good material that will help you grow as a person and as a leader. The person who works more on themselves will be the most successful.

  • Get into Action right away!  Do what Adam Packard calls “Beat the Box”. That means to get someone else signed up in your business or helping a new distributor get someone signed up before their distributor kit even arrives in the mail. How exciting is that?!

  • Keep your Attitude and Expectations in check.

By doing these things, when the possibility for a shutdown comes along, you will have a good foundation to help you get right back up on your feet! If you are a good mlm sponsor you will help your new distributors get started right to help them avoid shutdowns.

Attraction Marketing? What?

What’s all the buzz? I’ve heard this term used a lot lately in the field of business on the internet. I’m going to break it down for you and hopefully give you a clear picture of what it is and how it is The best way to do business of any kind, anywhere.

First let’s define our terms.
Attraction – to arouse interest or curiosity. Also think of a magnet with a strong pull.

Marketing – “Marketing includes identifying unmet needs; producing products and services to meet those needs: and pricing, distributing, and promoting those products and services to produce a profit.” (from Learn That website)

Relationships before Business

So what is Attraction Marketing? Basically, it is attracting people to You who are interested in what you have to offer. They find You. It is a switch from the old, conventional method of “chasing”, to allowing the prospective customer to come to you. It happens by attracting a growing number of people to you who are looking for what you have. By putting out lots of valuable information on the web, they find it. They get to know you, like you, and trust you. It’s the whole idea of giving something before you expect to receive anything. This creates trust and builds relationships.

How is this Done?

Think of yourself as a Living Magnet. Here are a few points to help you understand this concept:

1. First, you reach out to build relationships, not make a sales pitch, in many places on the internet. You do this by getting to know people on social sites who are in the specific groups that are interested in what you have to offer.
2. Give first. Provide valuable information on a specific topic. This is your target group or niche. This can be done by way of articles placed in strategic places, by writing a blog or website for example.
3. They contact you or give you permission to contact them by giving you their contact information. When this happens, you have “attracted” them and they are initiating the contact. They have  pre-sold themselves on You and what you are offering because of the good, free information you have given them.

What Attraction Marketing Isn’t and What Attraction Marketing Is

Here’s what it isn’t:
•  being pushy
•  persuading and convincing
•  bribing or bugging
•  pitching your product

Here’s what it is:
•  making a friend
•  identifying with their frustrations
•  sharing your knowledge
•  advising and educating
•  solving their problem

Attraction Marketing is great for network marketing. Approaching your business with this mindset will help you create a profitable and successful business.

What is your attitude? Your attitude is also what will attract or repel others. It’s not only being knowledgeable but also being a giver.

As Bob Burg and John David Mann say in their book, The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea , “Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.”

Attraction marketing is the most natural and enjoyable way to grow a business. Yes, it takes work but then, anything that’s worth anything takes work!

How I Won The Incentive Cruise Or The Value of Keeping Your Pipeline Full

I recently won the incentive cruise in my company! I’m so excited!  Not only did I win the trip, but it also helped me promote to the next level! As I reviewed how I did it, I kept coming back to the concept of “The Bursting Pipeline. This seemed like a perfect time to talk about the value of keeping your pipeline full. What is a full pipeline? In some ways, it seems obvious, but maybe it isn’t. A full pipeline in your Network Marketing business is when you are focused on your daily activities that YOU can control to build your business – meeting new people, prospecting, presenting, following up, and staying in touch until they are ready to join you. Here are a few points I thought of:

1. When your pipeline is full, there are several people on the brink of being ready to join. Sometimes even expressing to those who are in the pipeline that you are working toward winning a trip can be the very tipping point to decide to join you.

2. You don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If you only have a few people in your pipeline, you tend to focus on those few people to “get in”. Doing this may inadvertently be putting pressure on the one or two who are in your pipeline, causing the opposite effect. It may push them away!

3. When an incentive comes around that you really want to work for , you have the confidence that you can do it. Confidence and a positive attitude  is attractive.  When there aren’t many people in the pipeline we tend to doubt ourselves and our ability to do this business which will make us seem desperate or controlling, not at all attractive!

4. It helps free you up to only look for the Now people. Latch on to this concept. Look for those who are ready to sign up and keep moving. If someone isn’t ready, don’t hang all your hopes on them. Keep moving.

5. When an incentive comes around that you really want to work for , you have the confidence that you can do it, making it easier and so much more fun!

7. A full pipeline helps you to narrow your focus especially during contest time.

8. Staying connected to the leaders and their conference calls helps you to stay motivated and excited about the business, thus, keeping you doing something every day to build your business and your pipeline.

9. Above all, appreciate those in your pipeline and nurture your relationship with them. Personal notes are so important! Notes help them to know that your really value them as a person and not just see them as a signup.

Isn’t This A Pyramid Scheme?

The doubters, no doubt, will come. Here is a humorous but helpful video to watch that will help you lighten things up, know what to say, and just acknowledge the fact that some people, no matter what you say, will always be a doubter, even if their arguments make no sense at all. You know what I say to that? Move on! There are way too many people out there who are looking for an opportunity to earn extra income who will be open and want what you have to offer.  Remember, we are  in the business of looking for the “Now” people. We aren’t in the business of trying convince people to see it our way.

Your Most Valuable Business Asset

In business, do you know what your most valuable asset is? Actually in all of life as well as in your business  your Network is one of your most valuable assets.  Without a network, you basically have no business!  If you have a full and growing rolodex that is being nurtured, it doesn’t matter what happens to your company, you can be up and running again in a new business in very little time.

Here is a story about this very thing. Jordan Adler, the top income earner in our business, had lost his highly successful business in Excel when the company went under.  When he decided to get involved in his current business he had a huge network of contacts.  He started out by just contacting his network and finding out how they were doing.  He also started sending lots of cards just to get in touch with people.  Now, 5 years later, he is the top income earner! It couldn’t have happened without a solid network or people and a good way of adding to his rolodex.  Here are some tips to help you add to your network and nurture it:

  1. Make it a goal to meet 1 new person each day.  Don’t prospect but just meet and make a new friend.  Get their address and birthday and add them to your contact manager.
  2. Start sending birthday cards and “just because” cards to get back in touch. You can check out the card system I’ve been using for my business right here.
  3. Send occasional emails and make a call to say, “What have you been up to?”
  4. Reconnect with old friends on facebook and genuinely care about what’s been going on in their life.
  5. Join networking groups to get to know new people.  Find out how you can help them.
  6. Read Dig Your Well Before You’re Thirsty by Harvey Mackay  This is one of the best books on understanding the importance of a solid network

There are many more ways to build your rolodex and nurture.  But when you get right down to it, it’s just a matter of making friends and caring about other people. Make it your goal to create and care for your network or people.

Success According To Jordan Adler

Jordan Adler, leader in the network marketing industry, summed  up success on his Facebook by saying,

“Succeeding in ANY business requires consistent action, great relationships, a network of people, persistence, common sense, and A WILLINGNESS TO SEE THE JOB THROUGH! ‘Securing your spot’ has little to nothing to do with it!! Focus on the fundamentals to succeed in any business!”

Anyone who wants to succeed in any business should take heed! Make a poster! Post it up on your wall in your office, kitchen, above your computer, bathroom, or anywhere that you will see it often. For more success tips in building your mlm business, check out my 5 lessons at the top right!

Looking for Aces – The Deck of Cards

The following post is was written after hearing a great conference call about recruiting where Adam Packard talked about looking for Aces.

We all have a deck of cards to start out with when prospecting for  our business and we know that we are looking for Aces. What we do with it is the key to whether or not we will be successful. Which one are you?

What is an Ace? An Ace is a  self starter, one who is motivated,  a producer, and one who doesn’t really need much help from you other than to get him started and understand the basics of your unique company and business.

  1. The Observer – This is the person who sits and stares at his deck, studies it, admires it but never turns the first card over. In our business, this is the person who studies, learns, and gets ready to get ready but never gets started showing the business opportunity to anyone.
  2. The Failed Magician – This person turns over the first card and sees that it is a 2.  But he knows he is looking for Aces so he crosses out the 2 and writes an Ace over it. They try to make someone an Ace who just isn’t one. It will never work. You will be frustrated and so will the 2. Instead, appreciate the 2 for who he is and what he wants out of this business, encourage him  and keep looking for an Ace.
  3. The Short-sighted Prospector – This person stops with the first Ace – Here is the person that once he finds an Ace gets so excited that he stops! He forgets that he has more Aces in his deck. This person will run into a very big problem.Either he will pour all his energy and time into this Ace and start to Manage him or he will sit down and relax, thinking that he has arrived.
  4. The Dealer – Who is this person? Here is the person who has stopped flipping and is now watching other flip their cards. He starts wondering when “they” are going to find their Aces. If he isn’t careful he will become a manager.
  5. The Distracted Seeker – This is the person who in mid game will turn and start playing another game. The successful  prospector will put his blinders on, stay focused and keep flipping the cards in his game.
  6. The Little Engine That Could –  The successful prospector is one who keeps flipping those cards even when he has found his first Ace. He supports and encourages the Ace but he keeps going. He keeps flipping because he knows that that is what it takes to make it in this exciting game.

So keep flipping, keep encouraging, and keep going!


Let’s Start At The Very Beginning – Your “Why”

No matter what your company is, no matter how in love you are with your product, if you don’t have a clear “why”, the chances of you lasting in network marketing are not very high. Your why is the BIG reason that will keep you going when the going gets rough. Your Why is what gives you the real “staying power”. Your real Why is never about money. Your driving factor is much bigger than money.

You see, knowing your “why” can help you to avoid bad decisions as well as give you a true “sticktuitiveness”.
You must have a compelling enough why. What do you want to do? Write it down. Keep drilling down to the emotion. I’ve heard it said, “You need the why that makes you cry.”
Here is how
Robert and Kim Kiyosaki say in their new book. The Business Of The 21st Century.

“What is important enough to you that you’ll make the time and devote the effort to building a business that generates its own income, and then use that income to build wealth that will take care of you for the rest of your life? Because if you don’t identify what that is, it’s just not going to happen.”

Here’s the thing. If you don’t have a compelling enough Why written out clearly, yes I mean written down on paper, you will lose sight of why you are doing this and the first little bump in the road, the first “no” could shut you down.
So take a few moments or however long you need. Really think about it. Why do you want to have a home-based business? Once you have it written down, put it in a place where you will read it daily.
Don’t put off this important first step. It could mean the difference between failure and success in your network marketing business! For more in depth help on
